NFL Redskins

Troy’s Take: Week 4

Final: Giants (2-2) 45 Redskins (1-3) 14

  • It’s going to be hard to write anything good about Thursday’s performance… easily the worst showing of the season.
  • We’ll start with the defense, which coming into the game showed a lot of promise
  • 45 points to an average Giants offense is unacceptable, Redskins were beat on the ground (4.1 yards per carry) and through the air (Manning threw four touchdowns)
  • Who is Larry Donnell? Oh yeah just another no-name the Redskins make look good

  • I think sometimes Jim Haslett is asleep calling plays, few times he blitzed it made Eli uncomfortable but of course he stuck with the four man rush for most of the game.
  • Orakpo was awful, seems to only make plays against players who shouldn’t be in the NFL
  • Breeland played like a rookie, I’ll have a longer leash for him since he’s replacing a pro bowler, this experience should make him a better player
  • Perry Riley should be on the bench on passing downs, Eagles targeted him early and often the week before and the Giants did the same
  • Plain and simple, front four didn’t get any rush, secondary didn’t cover, nothing went right
  • I will say Ryan Clark has looked a step behind all season but he did play well against the Giants
  • Moving onto the offense… again not much good to write… let’s start with the QB
  • Kirk Cousins stunk it up (1 touchdown, 5 turnovers, 4 interceptions)
  • I’ll give Cousins a break on the strip sack should be credited to Tyler “human turnstile” Polumbus
  • Interceptions were awful and came at critical times, four picks in eight pass attempts is ludicrous
  • Redskins established zero rhythm on the offense end, field position was a killer … Washington didn’t have any drives start in New York territory on the other end New York had five drives start in Washington territory, four of those drives ended in touchdowns … the other was the Meriweather pick which some argued should have been a touchdown
  • Logan Paulsen sucks, if you watch the Redskins I shouldn’t have to say more
  • Hopefully Niles Paul isn’t out too long with the concussion, same goes for Jordan Reed, who missed the game with a hamstring injury
  • Special teams actually did ok but then again they didn’t have many opportunities with the Giants marching down the field every possession, I’m sure they’ll return to their putrid play next week
  • It was just a F- performance all the way around, hopefully the long layoff does the Redskins some good, maybe a couple of guys can get healthy but the schedule does no favors with Seattle coming up next
