Early casualties of the cap
Free Agency is set to kick off in a matter of days, the NFL draft is still a month or so away. What makes this free agency class much different than past years is the amount of productive players that will hit the market, there are only a handful of teams who have a ton of money and won’t have to make ‘tough’ decisions on retaining players. As for the rest of the league, contracts have caught up with them.
Do you keep a star veteran or a really productive piece of your team who has an extremely high cap number? Or, do you cut your losses and gain more cap space to hopefully replace said player? However it goes, there are going to be good players that can contribute right away in this free agent class. Below is the first list of players that have already been terminated and are will be unrestricted free agents at the start of free agency, meaning they are free to sign with whatever team they so choose.
