United starts the season off 1-0 after a hard earned win over the Montreal Impact, here’s what was said after the season opening win.
Coach Olsen on Rolfe’s impact in the game:
“Rolfe makes us a better team, a better soccer team. His ability to combine in the midfield is still or as good as anyone in the league I think. When he’s playing at a high level, we’re at our best, no question. I thought he was very good today”.
Chris Rolfe walks us through the Arrieta goal (he assisted on the score):
“Sean stepped in and won a ball, found Davy’s feet. Davy opened up and played it to me, found me quickly and gave me the opportunity to find Jairo on the next pass. I think that’s something we did very well last year, so for us to do that already, here in the first game is very good”.
Rolfe on having the wing backs push up and join the attack, from his perspective in midfield:
“It helps, getting numbers forward like that. Great for us, something that we relied on a lot last year so the sharper we get, the more that’s going to benefit us”.
Keeper Bill Hamid shares his thoughts on starting the season with a clean sheet:
” Feels great. The defense did an amazing job, it was extremely organized from front to back. We had each other’s backs, play after play and that’s what it takes to be successful in this league.”
Hamid on his vantage point during the limited chances that Montreal had in the game:
“We limited their chances, we didn’t give them much. But the chances we did give them, we dealt with them fairly well and that’s what you want to see. Especially in the first game of the season”.
