Mike Washington starts season with a bang, earns Player of the Week honors

The Arena Football League has announced that the Washington Valor wideout Mike Washington has been named as the offensive player of the week for Week 1.  last year Washington played for the Shanghai Skywalkers and was a CAFL (China Arena Football League) All-Pro. The 5’8, 180 pound Washington aka “The Joystick,” as he is known throughout the League was impressive in his debut with the Washington Valor in their 51-38 victory over the Baltimore Brigade.

Now in his seventh season, this is his first player of the week honor even after hauling in over 530 receptions, 6,603 receiving yards, 138 receiving touchdowns, and 1 Return touchdown. He won the award after he caught  nine passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns, including the franchise’s first-ever touchdown early in the first quarter. Only one week into the season, Washington is tied for second with nine receptions and fourth among all receivers averaging 12.4 yards per reception.

He was signed by the Pittsburgh Power as an undrafted free agent in 2011 after he played college football at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Along with Pittsburgh, he has also played for Spokane Shock (2014–2015), Arizona Rattlers (2016), Tampa Bay Storm (2016), Shanghai Skywalkers (2016).
