After Friday night’s debacle against the undefeated Minnesota Lynx (98-73), the Mystics came to the Verizon Center on attack mode from start to finish. Krystal Thomas scored the first basket and dominated early. Her early dominance was prophetic because she secured her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. With her early start, the Mystics sprinted out to a 28-12 lead, from there they appeared to be on cruise control.
The Fever wouldn’t go down without a fight as Candice Dupree and Erica Wheeler could not be stopped. The two ladies seemingly turned the tides on the momentum and cut their team’s deficit to 13 by the half.
In the third quarter, Elena Delle Donne showed why she is a Top 3 player in the WNBA because she took OVER. She was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and scored 12 of her 24 points in that period alone. Delle Donne and Ivory Latta erased any chance of the Fever coming back as they rebounded from Friday’s loss with a 88-70 win.The Mystics saw a win streak end on Friday and possibly started a new one with Sunday’s victory over Indiana.
The Mystics have nearly a week before their next game, despite Friday’s lopsided loss, they’re in a good place considering they’re missing one of their starters (Meesseman).
