So let me get this straight. Paul George wants to be traded, You can trade him for Kyrie Irving, Isaiah Thomas or Jimmy Butler. But instead you settle for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis?!?!
Indiana has serious problems both on the court and in the front office. When you lose a player like George, it is expected to take a couple of steps back. But you’d think they would be smart enough to get the best available deal for a superstar. Both Oladipo and Sabonis had seasons to forget last year in Oklahoma City and wouldn’t draw much in free agency. Indiana will miss George’s ability to be that “go-to” star that you can depend on every night. The Pacers are hoping that big man Myles Turner can emerge as a star ( or at least someone who can produce points while playing any type of defense.)
While Turner is young, he had flashes last year of just how good he could be with more time in the NBA. A combination of his length, rim protecting, and his soft shot makes him a bright spot for a team lacking in such. This entire season is banked on Turner’s development. Lance Stephenson has never been reliable enough to be a number one option. Thaddeus Young is aging. Glen Robinson III will start the season injured (and isn’t that good anyways.) Cory Joseph and Darren Collison are solid pick-ups, but have never been stars. So this team will go as far as Turner (and maybe Oladipo) takes them.
The Pacers has a team full of untrustworthiness. From a “star” player who is unproven. A front office know for making head scratching decisions. And Stephenson already coming out saying he is going to “play more of a leader role” (Yikes!) Heck even their jersey’s aren’t as eye popping as before.
Do not expect much winning coming out of Indiana this season.
