Ruffin-Pratt leads Washington to preseason win

The Washington Mystics took on the Minnesota Lynx yesterday in Iowa, both teams were missing key pieces as several players have yet to return from their leagues overseas. That said, Tierra Ruffin-Pratt led the Mystics with 17 points in a 90-85 victory over the reigning champs.

The visiting Mystics got off to a fast start, leading 25-14 after the first quarter and won the second quarter by a solid margin as well. As expected, no champion is going to just lay down and the Lynx responded with a big second half to narrow the gap, but Washington was able to hold on for the win. New addition to Minnesota, Danielle Robinson scored a game high 18 points.

None of the big guns for either team played extensive minutes, Elena Delle Donne played for about 15 minutes for Washington and scored 11 points. Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles played about 20 minutes each, it’s preseason and it’s a time for both teams to see how the rest of the roster will play out.

Washington got some solid performances out of their youngsters. Myisha Hines-Allen finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Ariel Atkins chipped in 7 points and 2 steals. Second year wing Shatori Walker-Kimbrough added 9 points.

Washington’s next preseason game is Saturday in Delaware, they’ll host the Indiana Fever.
