The GoGo ran into a buzzsaw against the Herd as they fell 132-106 on Sunday. Winsconsin got it going early as they jumped out to an early lead. They had a 30 point quarter to open the game and only turned up from there. The Herd added another 36 points in the second stanza and took a 21 point lead into the locker room at halftime. It was more of the same in the second half as the Herd continued their hot shooting en route to a 16 point victory. The Herd didn’t face much opposition as they shot 58% from the field and 44% from three making a franchise record 20 threes in the process.
The GoGo had difficulties defending the perimeter all night as Winsconsin went on to have a historic night from three point range and their wings had no problems getting into the lane and finishing. Jaylen Adams had a game high 27 points (7-11 3PM-A) in just 29 minutes of action. Rayjon Tucker (16 points) and Shannon Bogues (19 points) proved to be a hand full as well. Tucker manipulated the pick and roll all game which led to easy scoring opportunities and Bogues continuously got down hill, putting tremendous pressure on the GoGo defenders and finishing extremely well at the basket. He showed his craftiness using an array of floaters and nifty mid-air adjustments to avoid the GoGo bigs. Cam Reynolds added 24 points (10-15, 4-7 3PM-A) as he put on a brilliant scoring display. He had the midrange working, was hitting from the outside and displayed great footwork and poise in the post when he made his way down there.
The home team fell behind early and was never able to recover. They relied heavily on the three point shot despite not shooting well from the onset of the game. They finished with a respectable 34% but the lack of high quality shots in the beginning mixed with the Herd’s blistering pace didn’t bode well for the GoGo. Winsconsin made it a point to get out to shooters early and challenge shots or run them off the line. Good looks from distance were hard to come by for the GoGo and they weren’t able to generate much offense in other areas.
Chris Chiozza had a rough night going 5-12 from the field and 1-6 from three point range. Admiral Schofield led the GoGo with 24 points and Justin Robinson and Jalen Hudson added 20 points and 21 points respectively. Jalen Jones who had been averaged almost 20 points per game had a rough outing with 8 points, going 3-12. The GoGo also struggled defensively and were soundly out rebounded 50-35. That mixed with the Herd’s offensive brilliance made the end result no surprise.
The GoGo head on the road to face Delaware and Erie on a brief trip away from ESA and return on the 27th to take on College Park. Hopefully they can tighten up defensively bring back a couple of wins when they touch back down in Ward 8.
