The 49ers Shouldn’t Duck the Opportunity to Play LaMichael James

Lamichael James is expected to watch his first NFL game from the sidelines this weekend. The second round draft pick out of Oregon University put up stellar numbers during his three years of college football. Despite all of his success teams were afraid to draft him due to his size.  The San Francisco 49ers decided to give him a chance adding James to their crowded backfield. This Sunday San Francisco needs to stand by their decision by giving the former Ducks running back playing time.

The Green Bay Packers rushing defense last year was ranked 14th in the league according to the stats page. The 49ers running game, which ranked 8th in the league last year, should have no problem being productive against the green and gold.   Allowing rookies to take advantage of a situation early in the season will help them ease in to the faster paced NFL game. Lamichael James’ 1805 rushing yards last season proves that he can excel in a major role.

Jim Harbaugh must decide how much he values experience when he determines who is starting for his team in the season opener. Frank Gore and Brandon Jacobs are both veterans that have made an impact on the league. When The San Francisco 49ers chose Lamichael James with the 61st Overall pick, they decided to give him a chance to shine.  Sunday should be that chance.
