Villanova Football is trending upwards

29 days ahead of the season opener against Boston College, there is excitement abound about the 2013 Villanova football team, and rightfully so.

The Wildcats return 16 starters, including Jerry Rice Award winning quarterback John Robertson, who threw and rushed for 1000 yards in his stellar freshman season.

In addition to Roberston, five other All-Conference players will be back on the field for the Villanova Wildcats: running back Kevin Manangai, defensive linemen Rakim Cox and Antione Lewis, punter Mark Hamilton, and offensive lineman Josh Bucci.

The success of last seasons team which went 8-4 (6-2) and the returning players was enough evidence to garner recognition from CAA coaches and SID’s, who picked Villanova to finish as the top seed.

In 2011, when the team went 2-9, there weren’t many people who thought that Villanova would return to the top of the CAA standings so quickly.

The football team is even getting a bit more television exposure. Six of there games will be televised with two being on national television (@BC on ESPNews, @Townson on NBC Sports Network).
