Former Ravens reunite in the Bay
The Baltimore Ravens made news today by trading Haloti Ngata, one of the players they weren’t able to retain while they were trying to figure out what to do with Ngata was wide receiver Torrey Smith. Smith was set to hit free agency as an unrestricted free agent, it didn’t last long.
Smith signed a five year, $40 million dollar deal with the San Francisco 49ers, $22 million of which is guaranteed. While the 49ers may have had the worst Monday ever with Bruce Miller being arrested for battery charges and Patrick Willis retiring, their Tuesday hasn’t been so bad with their signing of Smith.
The former Raven will be joining one of his mentors in San Francisco and someone who played a big role in recruiting him. Anquan Boldin “unofficially” broke the news this morning on twitter courtesy of Jamey Eisenberg.
Just spoke to Anquan Boldin. He said Torrey Smith is going to the #49ers as a done deal. Said he helped with recruiting.

Smith plays a large role in what appears to be an overhaul of the 49ers receiving corps, evident by general manager Trent Balke extending a five year deal his way. Smith will be asked to stretch the field an give the 49ers something they haven’t had in a decade. A receiver that can stretch a defense, which should make life easier on everyone, especially Vernon Davis. Smith also led the league in drawing pass interference calls.
Free-agent WR Torrey Smith has reached agreement on a five-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, per me and @caplannfl
