The Wizards season opener was too close for comfort, but definitely showed the promising fast pace style of play that seemed to compliment the 1-2 punch of John Wall and Bradley Beal. The shooting guard who’s in a contract year, finished the game with 24 points while Wall followed with 22 points.
The team definitely struggled behind the arc, shooting a dismal 39% (7-28). This is minor and fans should look forward to a complete game where the shooting percentage matches the pace. On nights where those long shots fall, Washington could blow teams out of the water before they know what hit them.
Washington will also need more out of their post players, the match up of Marcin Gortat versus Greg Monroe will be great to watch. Gortat did not show well in the opener, only scoring 10 points along with eight rebounds. Greg Monroe however, started his Milwaukee campaign with a strong performance as he ended the game with 22 points and 14 rebounds, also four assists.
Despite his efforts the Bucks lost their home opener 122-87 to the New York Knicks. Milwaukee point guard Michael Carter-Williams was responsible for six of the 18 turnovers and the team shot 35% overall. Tip-off is at 8:00 pm Eastern in Milwaukee.
