Wizards sign former Hokie to provide depth on the wing

The Washington Wizards are severely short handed on the perimeter, still they were able to grind out a victory over the Sacramento Kings at home on Monday night. Tonight they’ll face the Memphis Grizzlies, due to their health issues on the wing, they made a move yesterday. Releasing center Ryan Hollins to sign Jarell Eddie from the Austin Spurs of the D-League per multiple reports.

Eddie is no stranger to the Wizards as he worked out for them prior to the 2014 draft, he would go undrafted and get experience in the from of the D-League. The 6’7 wing provides something Washington desperately needs. Outside shooting. Obviously the D-League isn’t the big stage, the NBA, but a shooter is a shooter and the undrafted wing has shown that he can hit the long ball. Last season he shot 45% from beyond the arc, this season he’s hitting 52% of his shots from that range.

Washington gave him a non-guaranteed contract, but if he’s able to step in and contribute he may make a case for Washington to retain his services even after their wings get healthy. Things appear to be coming full circle for the former Virginia Tech wing.

Below are two interviews with Eddie, the first after a pre-draft workout with the Wizards and the second after a summer league practice with Washington.
