Selection Monday with the Maryland Terrapins

Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to spend Selection Monday with the Maryland Terrapins. They finished the year strong by running away with the Big Ten Conference Tournament Championship, for the second year in a row. Like last year, the womens team took the regular season and Conference Tournament titles. With just three losses on the year (30-3), many were excited to see if Maryland would be one of the four number one seeds in the tournament.

They would receive a #2 seed, in the Lexington part of the bracket. So if everything pans out, they will have to go through the #1 seed in that bracket, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Maryland is coming off of back-to-back Final Four trips, while every team is different, this team may be better suited to get beyond a third consecutive Final Four trip.

They are deeper and bigger than last year’s group, several versatile pieces up and down the roster with just enough Senior leadership to keep them on track. Their journey starts Saturday at 1:30 pm Eastern in their home gym, they’ll be hosting Iona. Should the Terps advance, they’ll play the winner of Washington and Penn on Monday, time of the game has not yet been determined.
